Job Title:      Board Member & Chairperson

Salary:     Voluntary Position – Unpaid

Hours:     Approx 8 – 16 hours per month

Commitment: 12 months. (If you’re really keen & have at least 6 months to offer, please apply regardless.)


The Role:

The Source Board is responsible for making decisions on behalf of the Source Co-operative using consensus decision-making principles

The Chairperson also has responsibility for facilitating meetings, representing Source to other stakeholders & ensuring the Source Board operates smoothly.


Responsibilities of all Board Members:

  • Form part of the Source Board & participate in consensus decision-making.

  • Acknowledge that Board roles are somewhat fluid and must be flexible

  • Attend fortnightly Board meetings (aiming to move to monthly meetings)

  • Respond to emails between Board Members/stakeholders promptly

  • Awareness of the importance of OH&S and risk management at Source.


Role of Chairperson:

  • Facilitate consensus decision-making process at Board Meetings, ensuring all Board Members are heard, appreciated and respected.

  • Assist in the prevention of burn-out of Board Members by trying to make sure reasonable workloads are shared amongst Board Members.

  • Monitor changes in OH&S legislation

  • Initiate and facilitate strategic planning meetings and monitor the strategic direction of the organisation.

  • Action Governance issues within Board or Operational Group if required.

  • Thorough knowledge of Source Co-op Constitution

  • Represent Source at meetings with other stakeholders (can be shared with other Board Members where relevant).

  • Reliability in responding to calls/emails pertaining to Source & attendance of meetings.

  • Knowledge of/experience with consensus decision-making & the Source Constitution (information and training can be provided if applicant is keen!)

  • Enthusiasm for sustainability, co-operatives and bringing Source to the attention of Greater Hobart & the World….
